The Martian is a 2015 sci-fi drama adventure directed by Ridley Scott and written by Drew Goddard. It stars Matt Damon and everyone who’s ever been good in any movie ever. This cast includes but not limited to: Boromir, Harry Dunne, Troy Barnes, Ant-Man’s roommate, Sue Storm and Metal Arm Magee. The film is about an astronaut named Mark Watney who’s space crew leaves him stranded on Mars after they presume him dead and NASA has to figure out a way to get him back to Earth while he learns to surrvive on Mars. Now, this movie is a return to form for Ridley Scott. Lately, he’s been kind of off of his game. But to quote the great Chris Stuckmann: “I mean, really think about it. We can still go to the theater today, and see a new film by the guy who made ‘Alien’.” I love that fact. It’s just really cool to think about. This movie is practically flawless, and one of the best of the year. Everything is pretty much perfect. The score, the acting, the visual effects, the story, the writing and the humor. To me, the humor is the best part. This could have been a full-on tearjearker. One last thing. There are two in jokes that cracked me up. There is a scene where are they discussing Elrond from Lord of the Rings while Sean Bean is in the room, who played Boromir and a scene where Michael Pena, who plays a character in Ant-Man, Sebastian Stan, who plays Metal Arm Magee in the Marvel movies, and Matt Damon are all talking about Iron Man. Guys, I walked out of The Martian with a huge smile on my face, you should go see it. It’s funny, it’s intense, it’s beautiful, it’s one of the best of the year, a nailbiting finale, wonderful visual effects and writing.
